Samsung reportedly buying Blackberry

16 Jan

Several reports claim that Samsung Electronics is interested in buying Blackberry.

According to Reuters, executives of both companies have met to talk about the possible deal.

One of the reasons of discussed was the valuable patents that Blackberry have. This would help Samsung in their battle with Apple, and will protect even more in the future. The Korean giant has proposed a price of $13.35 to $15.49 per share, up by as much as 38-60% when compared to Blackberry’s current trading price.

Blackberry released a statement denying the rumors, saying that it “has not engaged in discussions with Samsung with respect to any possible offer to purchase BlackBerry.

Ross Healy, an expert from MacNicol & Associates, has said that Samsung has undervalued the company with its offer solely because of the security features Blackberry has to offer.

In a seperate statement, Samsung Electronics has classified the rumor as “groundless”.

We’ll let you know once we get more information in the future.
